the president put in his budget ideas the speaker of the house republican john boehner had proposed. he submitted his budget in the nature of compromise from the beginning. so much from the nature of compromise that the republican budget does not include the very ideas that speaker boehner put in on things like chained cpi and -- chain cpi and other things. president has gone such a long way that it is creating concern for democrats. the point is that republicans need to show a little reciprocity. my concern is the reason they refuse to go to conference is two things. one, that people will see in the light of day the stark differences between our approaches. and number two, they don't want a compromise, and if they ever did compromise, speaker -- speaker boehner could not get the compromise through his own party in the house. that's why you say, ok, where is the room to move forward? i think there is room. the best way to put pressure on everyone to get to middle ground is to go to conference, require people to have this conversation in front of the american people, which is what rep
